Die Forschung an Lösungsmodellen zur Entwicklung der globalen Umwelt und Welternährung soll jetzt zum Vorzeigeprojekt der Princeton University werden. Hierzu wurde ein Komitee aus mehreren Fachabteilungen der Universität zusammengerufen, das gemeinsam mit dem Stockholmer Resilence Center (SCR) ein Workshop gestaltete. Die Princeton University möchte mit ihren breit angelegten Umweltstudien zur weltweit akademischen Führungsposition aufsteigen. Erst vor kurzer Zeit hat die Hochschule die Initiative „Food and Agriculture“ ins Leben gerufen, in der Studenten eine kritische Herangehensweise in Forschung und angewandtem Wissen erlernen können.
Die Princeton University lud Wissenschaftler vom Stockholmer Resilence Center (SRC) zu einem zweitägigen Forschertreffen ein, um unter dem Motto „ Die Erde im Jahr 2050“ über globale Umweltfragen zu beraten. Geleitet wurde die Veranstaltung von Professor Simon Levin, Mitglied der James S. McDonell Foundation und Universitätsprofessor für Ökologie und Evolutionsbiologie an der Princeton University. Unterstützt wurde das Forschertreffen vom Princeton International Fund, dem Princeton Environmental Institute und dem Andlinger Zentrum für Energie und Umwelt. Das Symposium befasste sich vordergründig mit Ernährungsfragen auf globaler Ebene, städtischer Infrastruktur, Biodiversität und Naturschutzbiologie und der Wasserqualität. Durch den Austausch ergaben sich Forschungsthemen wie die Ernährung der Welt in Zukunft, urbane Nachhaltigkeit und Management komplexer Systeme für die Resilienz.
„Ich glaube wirklich, dass wir zusammen eine starke Rolle in der Zukunft spielen können“, sagte Line Gordon, stellvertretende Direktorin des SRC und stellvertretende Wissenschaftsdirektorin. „Ich freue mich auf die nächste Phase, in der wir einige der Diskussionen in gemeinsamen Forschungsprojekten zum Thema Ernährung, urbane Nachhaltigkeit und Verhaltensänderung operationalisieren werden“, führte Gordon weiter aus.
Levin betonte das Potenzial der Zusammenarbeit: „SRC ist ein weltweit führendes Institut, das sich darauf konzentriert, sozio-ökologische Systeme in einem sich wandelnden Umfeld robust und widerstandsfähig zu machen. Diese Expertise wird durch die Princeton University bei der Suche nach einer nachhaltigen Zukunft für die Menschheit ergänzt“, sagte er. „Auf beiden Seiten herrscht große Begeisterung, und wir freuen uns auf produktive Partnerschaften“, so Levin weiter.
