Ein Forscherteam um Jane Ferrie am University College London hat die Ergebnisse einer Metaanalyse im Journal Canadian Medical Association veröffentlicht. Der Metabolismus wird durch die permanent hohe Ausschüttung von Stresshormonen wie Glukokortikoiden und Katecholaminen aus dem Gleichgewicht gebracht und erfüllt damit eine ausschlaggebende Bedingung für eine mögliche Diabetes-Erkrankung. Über den genauen Zusammenhang fehlen jedoch bislang stichhaltige Metaanalysen. Der Zusammenhang zwischen Arbeitsplatzfaktoren und Diabetes wurde anhand von 19 Kohortenstudien analysiert. Ausgewertet wurden Daten von 140.825 europäischen, australischen und US-amerikanischen Arbeitnehmern in einem Durchschnittsalter von 42,2 Jahren. Die Miteinbeziehung der Risikofaktoren erhöhte dabei das Diabetes-Risiko zusammen mit einem unsicheren Arbeitsplatz um 19 Prozent. Die Verbindung der Job-Unsicherheit mit Übergewicht könnte womöglich ein erhöhtes Risiko darstellen, so die Forscher.
