Damit in Zukunft bessere Flugzeuge entwickelt werden können, muss das Flugverhalten in der Luft genau untersucht werden. Zur Erforschung aerodynamischer Eigenschaften von Flugzeugen und einer möglichst realen Nachstellung des Fluges ist eine Simulation nötig. Das Ziel sei, so Dr. Holger Hennings vom DLR-Institut für Aerolastik, der Wirklichkeit des fliegenden Flugzeugs durch Computersimulation so nahe wie möglich zu kommen. Der insbesondere durch die am Flugzeug beweglichen Objekte bedingte intensive Rechenprozess soll nun von einem Super-Rechner bewältigt werden. Seit Mittwoch hat das Deutsche Zentrum für Luft- nd Raumfahrt in (DLR) in Göttingen den Rechner in Betrieb genommen. DLR- Luftfahrtvorstand Prof. Rolf Henke sieht darin die Rolle der DLR als einer der europaweit führenden Einrichtungen auf dem Gebiet der aerolastischen Simulation erfüllt. „Das ist ein weiterer Schritt in der Digitalisierung der Luftfahrtforschung“, fügte er hinzu. Das Hochleistungsrechensystem liegt in seiner Leistung mit 239 Tera-Flops im vierfach höheren Bereich als das bisherige System. Phänomene wie das Flattern bei Flugzeugen, Hubschraubern und Turbomaschinen sollen von nun an durch die Hilfe des Computers besser erforscht werden. Auch in der Energieeffizienz geht das System zukunftsweisend voraus. Das neue Rechen-Cluster verfügt über eine Warmwasserkühlung die auf dem modernsten Stand ist.
