Dem Möbel-Discounter „Dänisches Bettenlager“ konnte Holzschwindel im großen Stil nachgewiesen werden. Die Umweltorganisation World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) konnte nach einer Anzeige gegen den Möbel Discounter eine Strafzahlung in Höhe von 10.000 Euro wegen Verstöße gegen die Wettbewerbs- und Naturschutzbestimmungen erwirken. Das geht aus einer aktuellen Meldung der WWF hervor. Dabei ist der Discounter schon zuvor mit derlei Verstößen aufgefallen. „Das Dänische Bettenlager fällt inzwischen als chronischer Wiederholungstäter auf. Das Unternehmen täuscht mit seinem Holzschwindel nicht nur die Verbraucher, sondern schädigt auch die Umwelt“, resümiert WWF Referent Johannes Zahnen. Es ginge nicht nur um den aktuellen Fall. Immer wieder seien durch Analysen der Produkte auch nicht gekennzeichnete Tropenhölzer entdeckt worden. Diesmal handelt es sich um einen Stuhl bei dem die Angaben auf dem Etikett nicht mit der Identifizierung übereinstimmten. Angegeben waren Birke und Nussbaum. Tatsächlich war es Birke zusätzlich vermengt mit Eukalyptus, Gummibaum und Pappel. In einem besonders schweren Fall wurden in einem falsch deklarierten Möbelstück statt der ausgewiesenen Fichte, Holzgattungen wie Merbatu oder Spießtanne gefunden. Viele der identifizierten Gattungen sind akut bedroht. Schon 2014 wurde der Fall vom WWF als Verstoß gegen die Europäische Holzhandelsverordnung (EUTR) bei der zuständigen Bundesanstalt Landwirtschaft und Ernährung (BLE) gemeldet.
