Der Asteroid 3200 Phantheon kann uns vermutlich helfen, die Entstehungsgeschichte unseres Sonnensystems und die Bedingungen seiner Zeit besser zu verstehen und somit an neue Erkenntnisse zu kommen. In seiner Umlaufbahn kommt Phantheon der Erde nicht nur auffällig nahe, er verliert auch verräterischen Staub, der den Forschern eine detaillierte Analyse bietet. Vorausgesetzt die richtigen Instrumente sind verfügbar. Eine internationale Forschergemeinschaft hat sich nun im Forschungsprojekt Mission „Destiny“ zur Erforschung dieses Staubs zusammengeschlossen, um dabei unter anderem auch einige andere Geheimnisse unserer weiten Galaxie zu lüften. Das nötige Instrument für dieses Unterfangen soll vom Institut für Raumfahrtsysteme der Universität Stuttgart hergestellt werden. Unter der Leitung von Dr. Frank Postberg und Prof. Dr. Mario Trieloff, die maßgeblich an diesem Projekt beteiligt sind, übernehmen die Wissenschaftler die Planung und Auswertung der Mission, sowie die Entwicklung eines zentralen Messinstruments, eben des Staubdetektors mit. Dieser soll den Ursprung und die Zusammensetzung interplanetarer und interstellarer Staubpartikel genau untersuchen. Selbst die Zusammensetzung kleinster Partikel aus der Phantheon-Staubwolke soll der Detektor an Bord der Sonde „Destiny“ analysieren können. Die Messungen am sogenannten extraterrestrischen Material liefern nicht nur Einblicke in den Enstehungsprozess der Erde, sondern ermöglichen auch eine genaue Bestimmung ihres Alters. Die direkte Messung im Rahmen dieser Mission sei gerade deshalb von unschätzbarem Wert für die Forschung, da bei Untersuchungen dieser Art die Herkunft von Meteoriten oft unklar sei, so Dr. Postberg. Mittels der ausgerechneten Details dieser Partikel sollen die genauen Eigenschaften der asteroiden- und kometengroßen Kleinkörper erforscht werden. Denn diese waren einst, genauer von 4,5 Milliarden Jahren, das Baumaterial für unsere Erde. Zwischen 2024 und 2028 soll der intelligente Staubdetektor seine Arbeit aufnehmen.

Today, I went to the beach front with my children. I
