Die englische Tageszeitung „Guardian“ berichtet über menschenunwürdige Arbeitsbedingungen. Zwischen dem 4. Juni und dem 8. August sind demnach 44 nepalesische Gastarbeiter auf der Baustelle für die Weltmeisterschaft 2022 in Katar gestorben. Sie können weder das Land verlassen noch kündigen. Aus diesem Grund bin ich für die wohl wirksamste Methode diesen Umständen Kontra zu bieten.
Wenn es so weitergeht, würden bis zum WM-Beginn 4000 ausländische Arbeitskräfte sterben, so nach einem Ituc-Vertreter der Zeitung „Guardian“, der in seinem Bericht von der nepalesischen Botschaft in Katar verlauten lässt.
Viele nepalesische Gastarbeiter würden seit Monaten nicht bezahlt, zugleich wurde ihnen der Pass weggenommen, damit sie nicht abreisen können. Eine ausreichende Versorgung fehlt. Katar ist als Ausrichter der Fußball-WM 2022 deshalb sehr umstritten. Der englische Fußballverband erwägt einen Boykott. „Die Fifa werde deshalb Kontakt mit den Behörden in Katar aufnehmen, hieß es in einer Erklärung.
